Weekly Wednesday Wear Wander
Every Wednesday there is river session in which you learn general kayaking skills. This session offers great preparation for weekend river trips, and generally helps increase your confidence and comfort in your boat for any type of paddling from white-water to polo.Â
Meet at the boathouse at 13:00
Bring clothes that are warm and that can get wet (not cotton) and a change of clothes for after the session.Â
Meet at the boathouse for 19:40, to load the boats onto cars and drive to Hartlepool.
The session is 21:00-22:00 and you can expect to be back in Durham for around 22:45.
Please bring swimwear, and a towel (and t-shirt/shorts/leggings to wear on top in the pool if you want). The cost for these sessions is £5.
In this session you will be taught general kayaking skills, play games and have fun in the warmth of a swimming pool with our trained coaches -- one of the best sessions of the week to come to if you're a beginner, or if you want to work on improving any of your kayaking skills.
This is also a chance for more experienced members to come and practice their coaching or freestyle paddling, so there's something for everyone!
This is a friendly canoe polo tournament run by our club and aimed at freshers and less experienced players.
If you have never played before don't let that stop you! This is a really chilled out fun tournament and rules will be explained before, during and after games!
If you are already a keen Polo player please come along too! It will still be great fun and a good opportunity to play with the new members of the club.
We have competition coming from other universities and local teams. This is a great first polo tournament!
This is also an opportunity for our club to do some fundraising. So if you are a secret Mary Berry and would like to donate some cakes or treats to our cake stall it would be much appreciated! All profits go back into the club to help buy equipment, subsidise future events and so on.
The cost is £30 per team + fuel (~£15/car). So the cost to YOU would be approx £10 (lower if lots of people sign up!)
If you sign up but then cannot make it, you must unsign and let Dan Robson or Calum Spooner know before the 18th Oct. If you pull out after this date/don't show up you will still be charged.
We meet at 19:40 at the maiden castle boathouse, load boats and kit onto cars and drive to Darlington. The session runs from 21:00-22:00. We then drive home and pack away the kit, where we will expect to be finished at about 22:45
Please bring swimwear a towel and also a short sleeved t-shirt or lycra rash-vest, the cost for these sessions are £5
Canoe polo is a fun team ball sport in kayaks, during the session we practice basic paddling and passing in polo boats to full attack and defense set ups, so there's plenty to do if you are a beginner or a pro looking to practice for the next tournament.
This is the weekly session for paddling on harder whitewater and practising skills for rivers or freestyle. It takes place at the Tees Barrage in Stockton, which has a variety of features as well as a cafe and changing rooms with hot showers.
Meet at the boat house at 4pm to get kit and boats. You'll need to bring suitable warm clothes and a towel. The Barrage has its own cost of £9.50 and the petrol is usually under £5 depending on numbers.
If you haven't attended a Barrage session previously, please speak to Connor before signing up.
Free taster sessions for anyone who wants to have a go at kayaking, we will go for a paddle on the river Wear at Maiden Castle playing lots of games and giving some basic instruction of how to paddle for anyone who needs it. Once we are off the water there will be cakes and hot chocolate available for everyone. Make sure you are wearing stuff you don\'t mind getting a bit wet in, bring a change of clothes and a towel with you for after.

CANCELLED DUE TO HIGH WATER
We will be going to the pool on Monday night, so would recommend booking onto that as a taster instead. This does however cost £5 to cover the cost of pool hire and transport

The weekly Barrage trip
This is the first river trip of the year and it would be fantastic to see as many people there as possible. It is an easy stretch of the river, perfect for beginners, so come along and give it a go. If you're interested in coming along to Tyne Tour, then we recommend coming along on this trip.
We'll meet at the boathouse at 10 am to get everyone kitted up and ready. All you need to bring is yourself, warm clothes (NOT cotton), a dry set of clothes, a towel and a snack. We'll provide the paddling kit.
The cost of this trip will be £5.
