Join us for a spooky trip to the Durham City escape rooms! Two teams of 6 will compete against the clock to see if they have what it takes to escape the rooms. Will you escape in time?
It will be £12 each. We will set up the payment details as soon as the numbers are in. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR BOTH SLOTS.
We will split you into two groups once you get to the venue, it will be an ideal way to meet new people and build up teamwork skills!

Having Fun
and perhaps some of these, if we have time:
Bow dip turns (in polo boats)
Capsize, swim and self-rescue (with no panic!)
Knowledge of the River Wear
Rescuing others
Canadian Canoeing
Ferry Gliding
Confidence at higher water levels
Can't wait to see you there

If you sign up to this session and then cannot attend for any reason, you must let an exec member know asap and unsign on this page.
Basic fitness sessions out on the water - specifics depend on the weather/participants/how grumpy Martin is. For the slightly more experienced paddlers - just don't swim! Ask the exec if you're unsure about your skill level for this.
7am at the boathouse, done by 8.30am in time for lectures.
Cost - TBC but no more than £6.00 (to help cover pool and petrol costs) - hopefully this will go down as term continues
Meet at the boathouse at 7:00 pm for transport to Darlington for the Pool session. We should arrive back and be done by 11pm
There are limited spaces based on the number of cars we have so sorry if you can't get on.
This session will focus on the learning polo skills but we will also teach general boat handling skills - rolling and T-rescue with some general skills.
Priority is given to those who have paid for membership - if you sign up without having paid we may have to remove you from the session.
Bring clothes to get changed into - you will get wet but it's inside and warm. Sports clothes or a swimming costume with shorts/leggings and a sports top work well

We have two openings on the 21/22 canoe club executive committee!
Roles available: Media Sec and Competition Sec
If you have any questions about the roles available, please reach out to the current holders of that role! They will be more than happy to talk you through it.
Why run for a role? Not only does it look great on your CV, but the roles are pretty good fun! Being on exec is a chance to make your own stamp on the club, as well as getting to know fellow exec members and feel part of a team.
A note to Freshers/2nd years: We totally understand that you haven’t had much chance to get involved with paddling this year as a result of COVID, however, we would still love you to apply for exec roles! If you are unsure about what the role would entail or would like some advice, feel free to message myself, the member currently in the role or email the club ([email protected]).
HOW TO APPLY FOR AN EXEC ROLE
You must first ensure that you are a paid club member (subs cost £45- if you are unsure whether you have paid please contact Matt our current treasurer or email [email protected])
You should first create a manifesto: This is one side with photos, please keep it to less than 250 words. You must also have a proposer and seconder (both the signatories must also be members of good standing).
Submit your manifestos/nominations to [email protected] between now and 9am on Sunday 10th October!
Manifestos will then be posted on the Facebook page and emailed to all club members if received before this time.
To see examples of last year’s manifestos visit the files section of the club website (https://durhamunicanoe.co.uk/downloads.php).
Additionally, you will need to prepare a short speech during the EGM. You can speak for 2 minutes, detailing why you should get the role. This shall be followed by approximately 5 minutes of questions.
If you cannot attend EGM you can nominate your proposer or seconder to speak on your behalf.
You may stand (and submit manifestos) for multiple positions if you wish.
The incoming Exec will take effect immediately after the EGM closes.
VOTING
Voting usually happens anonymously during the EGM. However, if you are unable to attend, votes can also be submitted in advance. An email shall be sent at approximately 9am on Sunday 10th October containing all manifestos and ‘postal’ voting details.
Votes must be completed before 1pm on the same day if they are to be counted alongside EGM votes.
You must be a paid member (or an honorary member present at the meeting) if you wish to participate in voting.
Votes will occur immediately after each candidate has spoken. Therefore, if unsuccessful in one position, you may immediately stand for another subsequent position.
