Beginner polo

 Beginner polo (yay!!). Everyone welcome (even/especially if you haven't played before), starting with the very very basics and working up to develop skills so we can smash league and tournaments this year and in the future!

PS: most people will be in white water boats to begin with and we will be using decks (it's okay if you haven't before we will explain!).

PPS: This is all weather permitting - if its too wet/cold it won't be on. Keep an eye on the group chat! Also bring dry + warm clothes for after.

Our first introduction to white water trip! This is a day trip to the North Tyne or appropriate river depending on water levels.
The only costing is fuel for this trip and if all the seats are booked then will be between £5-£10 roughly but will depend on numbers of car places.

This trip is for those who have come to Wednesday sessions, used a spray deck and are comfortable with a capsize drill (recommended to do at a pool session if not done before). It is for those who are confident paddling on flat water, turning and moving a boat and are now ready for harder water.

This is a day trip so please bring clothes to kayak in (lots of warm layers and fleeces) *no cotton or jean type clothing* we will provide wetsuits, cags and kayaking equipment but please bring enough layers to kayak in (the more you bring the better).

Please bring a change of clothes and shoes, a bag to put your kit in and lunch for the day, it's recommended to have a flask of hot drink as well for afterwards.

Friday Pool Session

Our Friday pool sessions are back! Signup quick because we have limited spaces this week.

Learn to roll a kayak in a warm environment!
£5 for this week's session pool hire and transportation.

Bring a towel, something you are happy to wear in the boat in the pool (Sports clothes or a swimming costume with shorts/leggings and a sports top work well) as well as a change of clothes for afterwards. 

Priority is given to those who have paid for membership but non-members are also welcome but the price is £7.
Meet at the boathouse at 7:00 pm for transport to the Pool session.

Wednesday Chill Paddle 15:30

THE WEDNESDAY WARRIORS RETURN AT MC 15:30-17:00

The usual Wednesday session! Open to beginners and is simply a really chill couple hours on the River Wear. If you want to get into kayaking or simply have a fun afternoon on the river this is probably the session for you!

Please bring a fleece to wear on the water, spare shoes, plenty of spare clothes and a towel. It is best not to wear jeans on the water since these shrink when wet.

Monday Morning Fitness

Do you enjoy being tired, cold and wet? Come to Monday morning fitness!

Meet at 7:15am at our Maiden Castle boathouse. Off the water by 8:20am so you can still get to those all important 9am lectures.

We use polo boats for this session. If you haven't been in a polo boat yet/aren't comfortable in one, please give this session a miss. Pool sessions are a great opportunity to try one for the first time. Speak to a leader if you have any questions.

(Price will depend on how many people sign up and fuel mileage if you do not have a DUCC membership)

Please bring a fleece to wear on the water, spare shoes, plenty of spare clothes and a towel. It is best not to wear jeans on the water since these shrink when wet.

Wales 2024

It's the trip you have all been waiting for:

Wales 2024!!

What more could you want than a place on this trip to get you motivated through May, onto June so that you can come to Wales!

From the 20th-25th DUCC will be heading down to Wales for our cross-over kayaking - from social paddles to Whitewater kayaking, Wales has it all! (and a lot of choccy milk!!)

We aim to have a variety of paddling opportunities to cater towards the group mixed in with a social event and a really lovely atmosphere.

ALL ABILITIES WELCOME if you are a member of the club! We stay in a scout hut which is £6/person/night and there are showers! Deposit for this trip is £30 to secure your place. You will need a roll mat and sleeping bag for this trip but the overall accommodation is very nice for the price. Any queries give your Trip Officer (Charlotte) a message!

Taster/Beginner Session

Seen people kayaking and wanted to give it a go?

Haven’t felt confident enough or had the ability level to join one of the Sunday chill paddles?

Then come join us for a paddle on Tuesday at 10am on the River Wear! (We will aim to be off the water for around 12).

Meet at the boathouse which is at Maiden Castle by the bridge over to the grass pitches.

This session is suitable for complete beginners so don't worry if you've never paddled before.

Please come in sports clothes you are happy to get wet (no jeans and ideally no cotton), bring a change of clothes for afterwards, a towel and another pair of shoes you don’t mind getting wet for on the water.

Sunday Evening Paddle

This is a great way to relax, take whatever boat you are comfortable in - we will paddle up to Prebends Bridge and possibly play some games once we're there.

You should be comfortable paddling that distance (and back) at a leisurely pace. Meet at 6, we should be off the water by about 8.
