Welcome to Durham University Canoe Club!
Come join us for a chill paddle on the River Wear! This
session is suitable for complete beginners so don't worry if you've never
paddled before.
We provide all of the kayaking kit and the session is
completely free. All you'll need is a spare change of clothes (just in case you
get wet), some trainers to wear on the water, and a towel. Hopefully it will be
nice and warm, but consider bringing an extra layer too. Where possible, try to
come to your session in what you intend to wear on the water.
Please come to the boathouse 15 minutes early so we can get
you kitted up and choose a boat. We meet at the boathouse behind Maiden Castle
next to the river (see the about tab for more info on where to find us).
There's also a handy pinned post on our instagram telling you where we are.
If you have any questions, drop us a message on
Instagram/Facebook.
We can't wait to see you on the water!

Find us at the sports fair on Tuesday 30th September! We will be at Maiden Castle sports centre from 1:30 - 8:30 pm to answer all your questions about DUCC!
Seen people playing canoe polo on the river? Seen the photos from BUCS? Heard all the great stories about the sport? Now's your chance to learn how to play!!!
I am running an intro to polo session on Sunday. Meet at the boathouse at 3pm. No experience necessary- if you have never kayaked before you can go in a whitewater boat rather than a polo boat, so everyone is welcome!!!
We will cover some of the basics and just getting comfortable in the boat. (Feel free to come if you've already played a bit before)
The session will probably be around an hour, will depend on how much fun we are having! (Let me know if you need to leave at a certain time, it's no problem)
Please bring a spare change of clothes including shoes if you want to wear some in the boat. Also remember a towel. Any questions message Maddie or on the facebook groupchat.
Looking forward to seeing lots of you there :)
Another evening chill paddle but on Wednesday instead of Thursday. Meet at 18:00, we aim to be back at the boathouse for 20:00

It is that time again, every three years Reunion comes around!
This event comes around so that everyone gets at least one Reunion during their academic studies! Alumni return to join current DUCC members in a weekend to celebrate DUCC.
DATES ARE: 6TH-8TH June
(immediately after exams and before the Alps, there will not be any trip clashes etc)
What does Reunion consist of?
It is a weekend that involves past members all returning to Durham:
Friday evening - pub, chill and chat for students and those who have arrived early.
Saturday - WW river trip (may the relative chaos unfold, a river will be chosen for everyone, depending on rain and ability - last time it was a scrappy HFLF with extortionate amount of safety due to all the alumni returning!)
Reunion meal - a 3 course meal including a reception drink and 1/2 wine per person included in the ticket, this will be at the Masonic hall and from memory the food was excellent and worth it.
Cost of the ticket is expected to be £40 for students but the more that go the cheaper it will be!
Sunday - picnic, River Wear paddle and general socialable meet up!
Any queries speak with Charlotte on behalf of the Fire King (Martin, FoDUCC president), this form is just to get rough number of interest for students as our tickets are cheaper!
DUCC River Wye Social Touring Trip Tuesday 3rd June – Friday 6th June.
A relaxed four-day canoe and paddleboard (SUP) 'expedition' on the river Wye including three overnight camps at Hoarwithy, Ross-On-Wye and Symonds Yat. Starting at Hampton Bishop (just downstream of Hereford) and finishing at Monmouth. Daily distance between 8 and 14 miles. We will leave Durham at 7am on Tuesday, returning on Friday evening in time for reunion.
Craft: 4x tandem canoes and 6x SUPs. If you have a SUP that you can bring, please comment this next to your bid (this will make the logistics easier). Camping kit (including tents) can be provided if required. Overnight kit will be left in the cars and shuttled to the next campsite each day.
Costs are kept to a minimum and divided up at the end of the trip. Estimated trip cost is £100 (£40 fuel, £35 campsite fees, £25 food). A £50 deposit is required to confirm your bid.
Please ask Jake/Charlie if you have any questions.
The DUCC Annual Summer BBQ is back! Join us at the boathouse at 3:00 PM, and we'll head down to the racecourse to kick off the grilling.
If you have any dietary preferences or restrictions, please message Matthew, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them. Don’t forget to bring your own drinks!
The fifth evening paddle of the summer term. This is a great way to relax during the exams period, take whatever boat you are comfortable in. We will paddle up to Prebends Bridge and possibly play some games when we get there.
You should be comfortable paddling that distance (and back) at a leisurely pace. You can use one of the canoes if you aren't comfortable in a kayak.
Meet at the boathouse at 18:00. We aim to be off the water by 20:00.

The third evening paddle of the summer term. This is a great way to relax during the exams period, take whatever boat you are comfortable in. We will paddle towards Prebends Bridge and possibly play some games when we get there.
You should be comfortable paddling that distance (and back) at a leisurely pace. You can use one of the canoes if you aren't comfortable in a kayak.
If you intend on getting wet or splashing other people a change of clothes is recommended.
Meet at the boathouse at 18:00. We aim to be off the water by 20:00.
The weather looks like it will get warm again this weekend, so I though we could do a social paddle to the pub. Same as the chill paddles except instead of going to Prebends bridge we will stop at Elvet bridge for a refreshing drink.
You should be comfortable paddling to Elvet bridge (and back) at a leisurely pace. If people need their phones to pay for drinks but are worried about getting them wet we can look after them.
Meet at the boathouse at 15:00, we will definitely be done before 18:00 but what time depends on how long people want to chat.
The second evening paddle of the summer term.

Scotland 2025!!
An amazing week white water kayaking in Scotland - this trip will occur from the 23rd March - 29th March.
What do you need to know?
Well aren't you glad you asked...
Leave 23rd March (morning) drive up to scotland, paddle river on route! Arrive, settle then get ready for a packed week of daily kayaking, group meals, lots of Smirnoff icing, card games and more! Drive home on the 29th after paddling yet ANOTHER river and arrive home evening of the 29th.
Who is this trip aimed for?
Those who have been actively coming to sessions and actively paddling white water this academic year, it is a week for those to massively improve their kayaking and even get white water rolls if they have been working towards them but also paddle a variety of rivers dependant on weather (river opportunities occur with or without rain).
Exclude the sugar coating, it can and will be cold (we have a drying room and the club equipment is good but you don't want to be swimming multiple times a day - look at the videos below for ideas of rivers)
Queries on ability? Ask Charlotte (me!)
How much does it cost????
Because your trip officer is super eager, organised, and a legend... instead of previous costings of £30 a night (for 6 nights) it's under £20 a night!! Final costing for deposit will be confirmed but it is expected to be £110-£115 for the week!
This is a deposit to confirm your place and is non-refundable due to us booking out rooms (not beds etc). If something occurs it is highly recommended to find another person to replace you.
Aside from the deposit, it's food (daily meals cooked together - not just by me muhahahah) and travel miles etc.
SIGN UP IS WEDNESDAY 19TH at 20:15!!! After the climbing social, any last minute queries ask people there about Scotland!
