Wear Paddle

Casual paddling on the river - Polo is a possibility - Mark will be available to work on skills.

First Aid

A kayaking-related first aid session which will probably involve: CPR, recovery position, drowning, hypothermia, wounds, sprains, dislocations, shoulder/arm injuries or anything of your choosing!

You won't receive a qualification but it's taught by Jennifer Robb who is from LINKs (the uni's version of St John's Ambulance) and it will be useful in everyday life not just kayaking. You don't often get a chance to learn this stuff for free!

Alps 2019

After exams are all over, we are heading out the the beautiful French Alps for a couple of weeks of paddling in the sun!

Argentiere is a place where uni groups from all over the UK head. There is a great selection of rivers for everybody, as well as via ferratas, hikes and fantastic food. And need I mention the weather?! We will hopefully be out there at the same time as other groups, so there's a really friendly atmosphere off the river too.

Everyone is welcome to come. Feel free to ask me (Molly) any questions.

Dates: 17th-28th June. Cost will be around £300 (fuel costs, camping, channel ferry and food) - this is only an estimate and may change. We will ask for a deposit in advance.

Sign up closes at the end of the Easter holidays

Wear Wander

Wander or polo or whatever people fancy!

FSRT - Training

Safety skills session!

This will be a break-down and work-through of the FSRT (Foundation Safety and Rescue Training) course, where we will go through each of the fundamentals learnt in the course. By the end of the night, you should hopefully know just about everything you need to waltz through the actual thing.

Including: General theory (Safety and Protocol), Bank based rescues (Positioning, Personal Safety, Use of aids) and Boat based rescues (Swimmers, Conscious/Unconscious paddlers, Tows, Self rescue and All-in scenarios).

Its a set of skills that every paddler can benefit from, so come along if you have the time! Capped number of places initially, if there's enough interest, I'll uncap.

Note: Bring kit you can get wet in, and a dry change. You WILL be getting wet.

Friday de-stress paddle

Exams getting you down?

Then come right down to the boathouse for an hour or two of paddling. Maybe in Canadians or something a bit different. Have a bit of fun, whether you've just finished an exam or need to take your mind off revision and enjoy the weather and scenery Durham has to offer.

Coaches will be available to offer general skills if you wish.

Wear Wander

A Wear wander, this will just be a wander down into town in boats (no polo for once 😲). We will be working on skills on the way as well as having a great time. It would be great to see as many as possible there. If the crowd feels like it we may get icecream during or head to the pub afterwards so please bring your wallets

BUCS Canoe Polo

Its time for the biggest university polo event of the year. This is a great chance to put all your polo skills into practice against other universities. Timings will be confirmed nearer the time.

The cost of this event will likely be between 20-30GBP but could be more or less.

If you unsign from BUCS polo after the 17th April you may still be charged the full cost of the event. Any questions ask one of the exec.

Polo Training Week

Get ready for BUCS polo with a week practicing your skills. This is a great chance to play as teams before we compete against other uni's. We will probably have a session or two everyday with plenty of time to revise in between. Any questions ask one of the exec.

The cost of this event will likely be between 15-25GBP but could be more or less.

If you unsign from BUCS polo after the 17th April you may still be charged the full cost of the event.

Scotland 2019

In the Easter holidays we will be heading up to bonny Scotland for a week of paddling. Dates are liable to change, but it's likely to be the first week of the holidays. We will be staying in a bunkhouse or hostel, so no camping (a veritable treat!), and paddling a variety of different rivers. There will be something suitable for everyone who signs up. Costs will be around £150 and we will ask for a deposit closer to the time.

We will be heading up on Sunday to allow people to play polo if they want. We will probably stay until the Wednesday or Thursday.

Any questions, just ask Molly or Connor.

Here's a video from this year's trip.
