NSR 2020

NSR 2020!

If there's one event you need to get to in your paddling career, it's this one. NSR (National Student Rodeo) is a kayaking event like no other, where swimmers are winners and alcohol is more common than George swimming on eddy lines. A full weekend of carnage and - attempting - freestyle paddling. You don't need any experience at all: the best prizes go to the fresher paddlers!

We head down on the 13th - 15th March 2020, Friday evening to the Sunday night.

There's a party on both nights, and on the Saturday, the party is themed - this year, it's 'Games Night', so be sure to start thinking about costumes!

Prices are as follows:

Competing ticket - £53
Hoodies - £25
T-shirt - £10
Extra events - £5

When you sign up, make sure to leave a comment with any t-shirt/hoodie sizes, and let Martin know of any dietary requirements.

Signup closes on the 21st Feb, so don't leave this late!

River Trip - High Force to Low Force

Since WWRR is basically cancelled, we're going to go for a paddle a little closer to home instead.

We will be running the classic section between High and Low Force - a fairly short section with an exciting end! Don't worry if you're feeling rusty on whitewater, the section we run might change depending on river levels. Should be something for everyone, though.

You will need dry clothes, a towel, and lots of layers to warm up at the end. Upper Teesdale can get cold! Food and money is also recommended.

The Poulet’s Gone Missing Again!!

A chance for 2 more lucky DUCC members (idk who yet) to dress up like poultry and get binned for free whilst being chased by other DUCC members who are dressed up normally and also getting binned (but not for free)

Make sure you read the club specific rules below, and if u don't know how to play ou est le pouet, read the general ones too.

GENERAL RULES HERE

Club Specific Rules:

Only college bars. JoBo, Hild Bede, Stevo & John Snow are not allowed. Everyone bring £5 minimum (but richer people pls bring a bit more if you can). Poulets may buy only ONE drink per round. No communication between teams whatsoever. Teams must set off in different directions from the first bar. EVERYONE MUST have one drink at every bar they visit - even if they've only looked in a window (this can be a VK, a pint, a shot, a glass of cool refreshing milk, or anything u fancy). When buying a drink, you MUST ask the bartender "Have you seen a chicken, about yay high?". A team captain will be chosen for each team, and that captain will be informing me of anyone who cheats these rules, though all team members are encouraged to report cheating. All reports of someone cheating will be considered anonymously, and my vengence will be swift and full of calcium. Good luck poulets.

BUCS Slalom

Sat 15th & Sun 16th Feb

Non-canoeing volunteers also welcome.

***Don't forgot to download the Bucs play app***
Click on canoeing > Events > Slalom > Slalom mens/womens K1 (or whichever) > Apply > Search the Durham team

The BUCS slalom event is held at the Tees Barrage in Stockton. It involves paddling down the artificial white water course and trying to go through gates. We will hopefully be doing some training beforehand, so you know what to do! Anyone is welcome to give it a go, regardless of experience - the more people we have, the more points we get and the more fun the event is! You can paddle kayak (K1 or  K2), C1 or C2, or all three if you really want! If you've not done it before, we would recommend a K1 (single kayak).

The event is run by the Friends of DUCC, so we would love to have as many people as possible come along and help, even if you don't want to compete.

We're not yet sure whether we will be staying overnight, but Stockton is not too far from Durham so we may come back here and return on Sunday. If you can only come for one day you're more than welcome.

Slalom/White water practice

Final chance to do some practice before BUCS slalom!

Meet at the boat house at 3:30. If you're going to S&C or otherwise can't come until later, let one of the drivers know and we'll work something out. We'll be back in Durham by 9 at the latest.

Make sure to bring plenty of warm layers. It can be very cold and if you haven't been before, you may well swim. Any questions, please ask.

Barrage centre fee is £10, and you will also be paying transport costs (usually ~£4).
