DUCC AGM Meeting 2021 & social

Our Annual General Meeting will be held at 3:30pm on Thursday 25th March!

Zoom meeting link: https://durhamuniversity.zoom.us/j/8356820497?pwd=T2F3TWhqanVJVzJxRGdzZ3ArZnNhZz09

Meeting ID: 835 682 0497 || Passcode:194754

*Note the meeting shall not be recorded

What will happen at AGM? We'll look back on the year, congratulate the old exec, and welcome new exec members! If you cannot attend the meeting you can still attend the social afterwards and vice versa.

Roles available (in order that they shall be elected): Captain, Vice-Captain, Treasurer, Trip Sec, Kit & Safety Officer, Competition Sec, Welfare Sec, Social Sec, Media Sec

If you have any questions about the roles available, please reach out to the current holders of that role! They will be more than happy to talk you through it.

Why run for a role? Not only does it look great on your CV, but the roles are pretty good fun! Being on exec is a chance to make your own stamp on the club, as well as getting to know fellow exec members and feel part of a team.

A note to Freshers: We totally understand that you haven’t had much chance to get involved with paddling this year as a result of COVID, however, we would still love you to apply for exec roles! If you are unsure about what the role would entail or would like some advice, feel free to message myself, the member currently in the role or email the club ([email protected]).

How to apply for an exec role

  • You must first ensure that you are a paid club member (subs cost £20- if you are unsure whether you have paid please contact Grace and Matt our current treasurers or email [email protected])
  • You should first create a manifesto: This is one side with photos, please keep to less than 250 words. You must also have a proposer and seconder (both the signatories must also be members of good standing).
  • Submit your manifestos/nominations t[email protected] between now and 9am on Thursday 25th March.
  • Manifestos will then be posted on the Facebook page and emailed to all club members if received before this time.
  • To see examples of last year’s manifestos visit the files section of the club website (https://durhamunicanoe.co.uk/downloads.php).
  • Additionally you will need to prepare a short speech during the AGM. You can speak for 2 minutes, detailing why you should get the role.
  • This shall be followed by approximately 5 minutes of questions.
  • If you cannot attend AGM you can nominate your proposer or seconder to speak on your behalf.
  • You may stand (and submit manifestos) for multiple positions if you wish.
  • The incoming Exec will take effect immediately after the AGM closes.
  • If an Exec position is not filled at the AGM, an email will be circulated around the mailing list asking for any interested parties to apply. An EGM will be called in order to vote in these members.

Voting

  • Voting usually happens anonymously during the AGM.
  • However, if you are unable to attend, votes can also be submitted in advance. An email shall be sent at approximately 9am on Thursday 25th March containing all manifestos and ‘postal’ voting details. Votes must be completed before 3pm on the same day if they are to be counted alongside AGM votes.
  • You can still run for an exec position after this time (9am 25th March) however, you will not appear on the postal voting sheet and your manifesto shall not be circulated in advance.
  • You must be a paid member (or an honorary member present at the meeting) if you wish to participate in voting.
  • Votes will occur immediately after each candidate has spoken. Therefore, if unsuccessful in one position, you may immediately stand for another subsequent position.

The Social! 8pm After AGM it is traditional that we run a social to welcome in the new exec. Come along for a fun-filled evening of the classic deduction game Werewolf. We’ll be using the app Wolvesville so if you could download the app in advance that would be great!

DUCC Runs/Walks John O'Groats to Land's End for MIND

With the club spread all over the country this term, we are aiming to traverse the length of the country together in a virtual challenge. The aim is to travel the equivalent distance from John O'Groats to Land's End (the two furthest points in the country) via Durham; that is 848miles or 1365km!

Please support us with a donation to MIND. This charity that means a lot to our members and has come under increasing pressure this year. Any donation small or large would be fantastic.

Alternately, if you would like to run or walk for us please contact the club to start logging your miles!

Virtual Social #2

CANCELLED - Tyne Tour 2020

Unfortunately, Tyne Tour has taken the decision to cancel this years event because of the current climate. I'm pretty distraught about this, huge apologies!

What this does mean is that something will be planned in its stead - no details as of yet, this page will be updated in time.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Early signup list!

Tyne Tour is a paddling festival that takes place over a weekend early in Michaelmas term. It's a fun weekend of kayaking, with a ceilidh on the Saturday evening for entertainment. This is not an event to miss, it's great fun for everyone involved.

Last year, prices were £20 for tickets, plus a little more for food/fuel. Worth every penny.

Actual dates/prices will appear on this page as soon as I have them, along with more details about the event.

Happy paddling!
