Friday morning Fitness

7:15am-8:30am

Everyone loves getting up early for kayak fitness sessions! We will be focusing on endurance/sprints with the aim of improving general fitness. You'll be back in time for exam start times/submission deadlines!

These sessions are not for teaching, so you must have come to a river session beforehand to attend. If you wish to know more or aren't sure if you can come, just drop us a message to discuss things.

Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes for the water, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you intend on wearing on the water, to minimise time in the boathouse.

Thursday Afternoon Polo for BUCs

Sign-up currently only for those coming to BUCs Polo - if we have more spaces later on it may be expanded. If you're not coming to BUCs and sign up we may remove you (it depends on how many leaders we have available).


There will be some people on the water some 1600 and you can head off early if you need to.

Weekly evening polo training on the river.


Some drills and general training, maybe a match at the end.


Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes you don't mind getting wet, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you wish to get on the water in to minimise time in the boathouse.

Wednesday Afternoon Paddle

13:30-15:30

Weekly Wednesday Paddle! 

Just a chilled afternoon out on the River Wear - a few games, a few drills, otherwise just a relaxed paddle session to help you destress from exams.

Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes for the water, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you intend on wearing on the water, to minimise time in the boathouse.

16:00pm-18:00pm

The evenings are getting lighter, so that means more paddling time! 

Just a chilled evening out on the River Wear - a few games, a few drills, otherwise just a relaxed paddle session. Likely to be a mix of kayaking and canoeing depending on the week.

Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes for the water, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you intend on wearing on the water, to minimise time in the boathouse.


****There will be midges so you might want to bring some bug spray!!***

Swimmers are Winners Bar Social!

Saturday 5th June 19:30 onwards

Join us for a chill evening of drinking and socialising at Aidan's Beer garden this Saturday! The theme for this week is beach themed!

You can arrive at any point after 19:30 and head home whenever you need to. The bar staff said they will set up a gazebo for us if it starts to rain, but we suggest you bring a coat as it is likely to get quite cold.

We aren't a heavy drinking-based club, so there is absolutely no pressure to drink, anyone and everyone is welcome! If you do plan to have a couple drinks, don't forget your ID! 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please follow the Aidan's Bar rules when we get there and bring a mask! Please **try** get an LFT test before you come along to ensure our club members stay safe.

Sign up for everyone now - but this is a more experienced paddler session - you should feel comfortable using a spray deck

Sign-up currently only for those coming to BUCs Polo - if we have more spaces later on it may be expanded. If you're not coming to BUCs and sign up we may remove you (it depends on how many leaders we have available). Also please only sign up to one of Thursday and Friday's sessions to start with.

Weekly evening polo training on the river.

Some drills and general training, maybe a match at the end.

We've had a lot of new interest in trying out the club recently, so this session is for new people only! A chance to see what our club is all about and give canoeing/kayaking a try!

Aidan's Bar Social!!!

Friday 28th 19:30 onwards

Join us for a chill evening of drinking and socialising at Aidan's Beer garden this Friday!

This will be a great opportunity to meet some new people and get to know club members outside of the usual sessions! You can arrive at any point after 19:30 and head home whenever you need to. The bar staff said they will set up a gazebo for us if it starts to rain, but we suggest you bring a coat as it is likely to get quite cold.

We aren't a heavy drinking-based club, so there is absolutely no pressure to drink, anyone and everyone is welcome! If you do plan to have a couple drinks, don't forget your ID!
