Morning Fitness (Fridays)

We're back! Friday fitness.

Basic fitness sessions out on the water - specifics depend on the weather/participants/how grumpy Martin is. For the slightly more experienced paddlers - just don't swim! Ask the exec if you're unsure about your skill level for this.

7am at the boathouse, done by 8.30am in time for lectures.

Wednesday Afternoon Fresher's Paddle

15:30-17:00

Welcome Fresher's! Join us for a chill and friendly afternoon of paddling on the River Wear!

These sessions are suitable for beginners, so don't worry if you have never tried kayaking before! This is the ideal time to try something new. 

We provide all of the kayaking kit and the session is completely free (we offer three free sessions each). All you'll need is a spare change of clothes (just in case you get wet), some trainers to wear on the water, and a towel. Where possible, try to come to your session in what you intend to wear on the water.

You MUST bring evidence of a valid university LFT that is valid within ***48*** hours of your session. The university advises you to take two LFT covid tests a week. We also as you bring a MASK with you to our boathouse.

Wednesday Afternoon Fresher's Paddle

13:00-14:30

Welcome Fresher's! Join us for a chill and friendly afternoon of paddling on the River Wear!

These sessions are suitable for beginners, so don't worry if you have never tried kayaking before! This is the ideal time to try something new. 

We provide all of the kayaking kit and the session is completely FREE (we offer three free sessions each). All you'll need is a spare change of clothes (just in case you get wet), some trainers to wear on the water, and a towel. Where possible, try to come to your session in what you intend to wear on the water.

Chill Session

Chilled session - depending on signups, either simply chilled paddling or paddle skills. Either way, it should be a relaxed session.

You MUST bring a negative result from an LFT/PCR within 48 hours of the session to participate.

Note: Weather forecast is for potential thunder in the afternoon. Whilst this shouldn't be an issue, this session could be called off at the last minute if there is the potential for electrocution.

Early morning wakeup paddle.

For the more experienced paddlers who are still in Durham.

Saturday BUCs polo training

Meet at 8am, get back around 1-2pm

BUCs polo training at Stockton. Meet at the boathouse, good idea to bring a pack lunch with you. 

Make sure you have evidence of a negative university LFT that is valid within 48 hours of the session, as close to the time as possible.

Bring your usual kit to wear on the water, change of clothes and a mask



Friday Morning Fitness session

7:15am-8:30am

Everyone loves getting up early for kayak fitness sessions! We will be focusing on endurance/sprints with the aim of improving general fitness. 

These sessions are not for teaching, so you must have come to a river session beforehand to attend. If you wish to know more or aren't sure if you can come, just drop us a message to discuss things.

Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes for the water, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you intend on wearing on the water, to minimise time in the boathouse.

Thursday Late Afternoon Polo Training

15:00-17:00

Sign-up currently only for those coming to BUCs Polo - if we have more spaces later on it may be expanded to non BUCs

Some drills and general training, maybe a match at the end if we have enough people

Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes you don't mind getting wet, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you wish to get on the water in to minimise time in the boathouse.

General fitness drills to help improve skills required for canoe polo (Sprints etc). Thi session is mainly aimed at those attending our BUCS polo competition.

The evenings are getting lighter, so that means more paddling time! 

Just a chilled evening out on the River Wear - a few games, a few drills, otherwise just a relaxed paddle session. Likely to be a mix of kayaking and canoeing depending on the week.

Bring a spare change of clothes, shoes for the water, and a towel (we'll supply the rest). Where possible, come to the session in the clothes you intend on wearing on the water, to minimise time in the boathouse.

****There will be midges so you might want to bring some bug spray!!***

We've had a lot of new interest in trying out the club recently, so this session is for new people only! A chance to see what our club is all about and give canoeing/kayaking a try!

BUCs polo Training In Stockton

8:00-12:00

Book an LFT test at MC for the Saturday Morning! Bring evidence of your negative test and a proper mask

Meet at 8am, be back in Durham by 12pm

If you have cars etc please bring them to boathouse for 8 and we’ll spread people and boats out to stay COVID safe
