Welcome to DUCC!
Come join us for a chill paddle on the River Wear! This session is suitable for complete beginners so don't worry if you've never paddled before.
We provide all of the kayaking kit and the session is completely free (we offer three free sessions each). All you'll need is a spare change of clothes (just in case you get wet), some trainers to wear on the water, and a towel. Where possible, try to come to your session in what you intend to wear on the water.
Please come to the boathouse15 minutes early so we can get you kitted up and choose a boat. We meet at the boathouse behind Maiden Castle next to the river.
If you have any questions, drop us a message on Instagram/Facebook.
We can't wait to see you on the water!

Just a nice afternoon paddle on the Wear. The chillest of chill - I don't really have a plan, we'll probably paddle towards Prebends bridge and see how far we fancy going. A chance for all of us to catch up and relax before the freshers week chaos begins.
Hope to see you there!
DUCC is excited to welcome back all the returners from last year! We have decided to do a returners paddle just before freshers start for those who have arrived in Durham early.
This will be on the river Tees and will consist of High force to Low force and potentially Abbey rapids depending on the day and weather conditions.
If you have any queries about skill requirements do speak with Nick and Charlotte about this trip - we do plan to have a variety of trips occurring this year to be inclusive to all abilities.
If you have any questions, thoughts, or ideas please do speak to one of the exec members!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
16:00-18:00
Chill paddle on the Wear with an extra leader! (Yay more spaces on the sign up)
Chill paddle down to prebends bridge, bring bug spray and sun cream!
As usual, bring a spare change of clothes and a towel etc :))
13:00-15:00
With everyone off to the alps, there aren't many leaders left for sessions (big sad), but we are able to run small group sessions with the one leader we have left!
A normal chill session, maybe with some messing around and falling in!
Please bring clothes for on the water, water shoes, a spare change of clothes, a towel, and suncream.

It's been far too long since DUCC has left the UK to explore kayaking in other places, but there's finally an opportunity!
Provisional dates are 18th June - 2nd July (or thereabouts). This is 2 weeks in total, with 10 days out in the Alps and 2 days travel either side.
We'll be paddling and camping in the Southern French Alps as cheap as we can. For reference, last time the total cost came to ~400 euro for everything - but last time we weren't there as a club, so this price will likely be a bit higher between the higher costs for literally everything but the campsite.
All abilities are welcome here, there are rivers for all abilities! Additionally, we'll be in the Alps - so there's plenty more than just kayaking to do. Last time, a bit of hiking and climbing was thrown in the mix on off days.
This is a PROVISIONAL form - we don't currently have any numbers on drivers and numbers, then depending on dates they can make, this might change.
If you're interested, add your preferred dates as a comment to your signup - that will make the planning much easier.
Regular Wednesday session.
Looks like we may only have one experienced coach this week, so the number of paddlers will be capped at nine initially. If any experienced paddlers are available, this number may be extended.
To help judge the level of supervision required, could everyone please summarise their level of experience when signing up.
“What would be your ideal trip?” Laura: WALES IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!
DUCC has paddled England, paddled Scotland; now it’s time for Wales!
We are hoping for a 4-day long trip between the 7th and 10th where the accommodation will either be a scout hut or camping depending on the numbers/timings. The pricing estimate will be confirmed after we know more.
This trip is mainly focused on touring or moving water rivers/lakes (and the river levels) so all are welcome!
NOTE: This trip hasn’t occurred before so please understand that the details aren't concrete (accommodation/pricing etc). Numbers are limited to the 'worst-case scenario' for cars - there may be more spaces if we get TD cars.
Please speak to Charlotte if you have any queries!
** THE FINAL 3 SPACES ARE FOR THE 8TH-10TH **
This session is aimed to help de-stress after a week of revision. Having said that, there will be many people going who have not done any revision this week. But if you are still hard at work with exams, be sure this is the right paddle for you!
It will be a nice and chill paddle to catch up and unwind.
Please bring normal paddling kit.
This session is for reasonably competent paddlers as we will be doing a small trip down the river. Message Nick Case if you are not sure if you qualify.
The boathouse if full of stuff! Some of it useful some of it not so.
As a result we are going to do a boathouse clearout on Friday where we clear out the whole thing!
Feel free to come along and pop in at any time to help out. It should be fun with good music and vibes.
We are also going to have a BBQ for lunch with all the essential BBQ food. If you want to come to this event let us know by adding a message to your sign up with the rough time you will be around. If you want to be part of the BBQ then please also let us know so we know how much food to buy (Also tell us if your veggie).
It would be good if you could bring a bit of change for the BBQ which should cost £3-5 max per person.
If you are unsure of anything message Nick Case
You know the drill by now 8am boathouse, please don’t swim
Will update this to a proper thing when I get home but doing this on my phone currently
We want to re-start a tradition of training with the Tees tigers which are a local club who use proper polo pitches!!!
There are two pitches so it is likely we will have a begginer session running on one and a more advanced session on the other. Therfore it doesn't matter what ability level you are it would be great to see you there.
This is a really good opportunity to get into polo as the Tees tigers have some really good facilities and coaches!
As with other sessions wear normally paddling gear that you don't mind getting damp.
Meet at MC boathouse. The pitches are in Stockton about a 35min drive away. As a result there is a small cost of approximately £4 per person (exact price tbc)
Arrive at 17:00 to load boats and we should be back by 8:45 (When we do this again it will likely be quicker)
If you have any questions message Nick Case
Our regular Wednesday session!
Hopefully everyone has finished exams by now.
Open to beginners as it's a chill couple hours on the Wear. We might try out a few of the crafts that get less use in the boat house.
Please bring suitable paddling gear especially if it's cold!
This is a session aimed for anyone who is interested in polo. Even if you have never done it before we would highly recommend you give it a go!
We will do a range of things such as basic polo skills like passing and catching and then likely move into some fun game scenario drills.
As long as you can paddle in a straight line and are happy with a spray deck then this is the session for you!
Wear appropriate paddling gear that you don't mind getting a bit damp
Message Nick Case if you are unsure
We really want as many people as possible to have rescue skills at the club so it is not just the job of leaders to rescue others.
As a result Martin and Nick are running a mini FSRT . This is based on a British Canoeing 1 day course 'Foundation Safety and Rescue Training'.
We will be covering things like how to empty a canoe from a kayak, how to rescue an unconscious paddler and throwline skills.
This is a good session for people that are comfortable in a kayak and have an interest in potentially helping out with sessions in the future. Expect to get wet as we will be jumping in so pack spare clothes (It should be really good fun)!
It is important to note that this is not an official FSRT course but provides a taster for the official course. To this end we are working on running an actual FSRT course as well so expect to hear about this soon.
If you have any questions such as if you are unsure if this is the session for you message Nick Case
Monday Morning Fitness
The session will be run from 8am-9am ish and will be fairly short and sharp.
Bring appropriate kayaking kit as always and maybe a water bottle as the weather gets warmer...
We will likely do some interval training. This is a great session to get faster and fitter and is appropriate for intermediate to advanced DUCC paddlers.
Bring spare clothes if its cold!
This session is aimed to help de-stress after a week of revision. Although, if you are one of the lucky ones who finished your exams last week you are still welcome!
It will be a nice and chill paddle to catch up and unwind.
Please bring normal paddling kit.
This session is for reasonably competent paddlers as we will be doing a small trip down the river. Message Nick Case if you are not sure if you qualify.
