THE WEDNESDAY WARRIORS CONTINUE AT MC 14:15 - 15:45
The usual relaxed Wednesday session! Open to all with beginners especially welcome, this is simply a really chill couple of hours on the river. If you want to get into kayaking or simply have a fun afternoon session on the river this is the session for you!
Please bring a fleece to wear on the water, spare shoes, plenty of spare clothes, and a towel. It is best to avoid jeans on the water as these shrink when wet.
Any questions please ask in the socials chat, message the club instagram, or message Devon (Vice Captain).

Wednesday morning fitness!!
Must be comfortable in polo boat or wavehopper.
Meet at boathouse at 7am. This means 7am (couple minutes late is okay), we will be on the water for 7:15am no exceptions.
Will be done in time to get to 9ams (which I do have).
Paddle to prebends and back at own (relatively fast) pace (it's 5.8km).
No faff or swimming.
Unsign if you're not coming anymore or message me (Maddie) but would be nice if someone else showed up!
Please dress warmly if it's cold
Bring a water bottle and a speaker if you have one. Questionable playlists encouraged.
Prepare for pain.
By popular vote, the first sober social of the year will be on Monday next week.
We will be pumpkin carving!
Please sign up if you are coming.
This will be held at my house (see WhatsApp group). If people don't want to lug a pumpkin across Durham, message me by Friday and I'll order some. Also TD have a thing about socials at people's houses so this will be strictly sober.
19:00 - 21:00
5(.8)km timetrial from boathouse to prebends bridge and back. Choose between polo boat, wavehopper or k1*
I (charlie) will be there - feel free to join if you want. No faff allowed (you must be able to paddle the distance in <1hour).
Record your time on your phone/watch so it can be added to the results spreadsheet.
Boathouse at 1pm. All welcome. Ideally, you have been in a polo boat before - if not that's ok.
The temperature is dropping so bring some warm layers and clothes to change into afterwards. You can wear a club cag if you want to.
This is the last intro to white water we will be running this
term. This serves as a prerequisite to all of our other whitewater trips
(excluding Tyne tour) so if you want to do whitewater this term and haven’t been
on an intro already then this is your last chance!!!
Meet at the boathouse at 9am and we hope to
be back at 5pm. The expected cost will be between £5 and £10 to
cover the cost of fuel (please see the message in the socials chat for more
details about how trip finances work).
This is a fantastic opportunity to give whitewater kayaking
a go or brush up on some skills if you are already a veteran!
This trip is strictly only open to those
who:
- Can
confidently paddle on flat water (i.e. straight line and turning)
- Are
comfortable wearing a spray deck AND has performed a capsize drill that was
witnessed by a current DUCC leader.
If you have not yet completed a capsize test, please
send me (Jake) a message and then sign up to this week's ‘Wednesday Warriors’
OR the Friday pool session* and we can do it there. Do NOT sign up to
this trip until you have completed one.
*please also message me directly if you plan to do your deck test at the pool session, since signups will close before the pool session ends...
If you cannot paddle confidently on flat water, it will not
be appropriate for you to go on this trip, however there will be plenty of
opportunity to hone your skills by coming along to ‘Wednesday Warriors’.
We will provide wetsuits, cags, and kayaking equipment
but you must bring:
- Warm layers* (thermals and fleeces- NOT jeans)
- Shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy (old trainers
are ideal- NO CROCS OR SLIDERS)
- Packed lunch
- Water bottle
- Change of clothes (including hat gloves etc)
- Towel to change with
- Waterproof jacket
- Any personal medication you may need, e.g. inhaler (please
let an exec member know if this is the case)
Also please make sure you have eaten a good breakfast before
you arrive at the boat house on Saturday (think ‘Noah Coombe’…)
Any questions or concerns please do message me, or any other
exec members!
Hope to see you there!
Friday pool sessions are back!
All welcome. These sessions will focus on boat skills, getting comfortable with a spray deck and teaching you how to roll. After a few weeks we will focus more on canoe polo skills.
Meet @ boathouse at 7pm sharp. We will load up the cars and drive you to Darlington. You'll need swimming stuff (e.g. t shirt and shorts) and a water bottle/towel. Bring some snacks if you like - biscuits are provided afterwards. We get back to Durham about 10:45.
If you haven't been before, you'll have to do a short swim test. This involves swimming two lengths of a 25m pool (total 50m) and treading water for 1 minute. No specific stroke or great technique required.
If you unsign from a pool session within 24hrs and can't find someone to replace you, you will still be charged. If you do unsign, put a message on the group offering your place to people. Price for members is £6. Non-member price is £9.
Must be comfortable in a polo boat. No swimming.
Meet at 7am, off the water by 8am for 9ams.
We will most likely be doing Hammonds (focusing on technique and speedy turning), practising explosive sprint starts and then doing 10s 20s 30s (the proper way).
Any questions message Maddie or on the socials chat.
Please sign up.
If you wake up and don't want to come please message me.
Bring water, prepare for pain.
Grab your loudest, tackiest, most aggressively Hawaiian shirt and join DUCC for a night of pure tropical chaos! Starting at 20:00 in Van Mildert College bar, get ready for cocktails, questionable fashion choices, and top-tier canoe club vibes. The brighter the shirt, the better the night, so don’t hold back. See you there!
